Ladies and gentlemen it’s time. Your favorite moron is back to give idiotic lacrosse advice that nobody asked for and nobody will probably read. Week zero kicks off tomorrow so what a better time to send out the idiots guide then at 9 o’clock on a Friday the day before the first games. Enjoy!

ACC
#1Duke
#2 Virginia
#3 Notre Dame
#4 Syracuse
#5 North Carolina
How do you not take Duke to win the ACC this year? 34 is back for another round with tons of weapons behind him like Balsamo (wearing #1 now), McAdorey, Brower, Naso, and Williams. Helm returns in net for a last go around as well. Not to mention 3 of the top 100 incoming freshmen. Can you believe there is still a fowler on Duke? That has to be like 2 decades straight of one of the Fowler boys on the roster. These guys will be super hungry to get back to championship weekend after last year’s tough loss in the Championship.
Virginia is going to be awesome again because Shelly won’t allow anything else. They have their own cast of characters like Cormier, Schutz, Kastner, and Nunes. They have a ton of talent that have yet to play in a Cavalier uniform. The number 2 freshman in the country and my boy Mccabe Millon, Highly touted 2023 recruit Joey Terenzi, and the 2023 Division 3 player of the year Jack Boyden from Tufts. There has never been a limit on talent at UVA but replacing the all time face off leader in Petey Lasalla will be a problem.
As long as there is a Kavanagh at ND you can ever count them out. That being said I see big time super bowl hang over for the boys in South Bend. The ACC Championship being back for the first time since 2019 could be a huge wrinkle in this master plan of mine. ND is one of those teams that you don’t want to see in a dark alley. If there is any blood in the water from Duke or Virginia they could easily pounce and beat them in a quick 3 day ACC championship weekend.
Syracuse got better last year but that doesn’t mean they can compete with Duke, UVA, or Notre Dame. Those 3 are playing a different sport right now than what Syracuse and North Carolina can put together. I’m excited to see Spallina matched up with line mate Owen Hiltz who returns from injury this year. Petro and Dom will make their debuts for the tar heels this year together. UNC has had a top recruiting class for the last 100 years and has only 1 championship to show for it. I think the departure of Coach Metzbower will be very hard for them to overcome.

America East
#1 Vermont
#2 Albany
#3 Bryant
#4 Binghamton
#5 UMBC
#6 Merrimack
#7 NJIT
#8 Umass Lowell
Vermont wasn’t great outside of conference play last year but neither was the rest of this conference. Coach Feifs has built something really strong in Vermont and I think they will continue to get better going forward.
Albany’s record wasn’t great but played by far the toughest non conference schedule and is one of those teams you can never count out. I think they can rebound and have a much better year this year and take back what they should have against Bryant in the championship last year.
Coach Ross in year two will look to get back to the championship game again. I think they take a bit of a step back this year. Similar to a coach fired mid year in the NFL that team will look to play its ass off for the interim in the next game. I think that’s what we saw from Bryant last year after Coach Pressler retired.
The Bingaling boys played some really close games last year and proved to be tougher than they have been in years past. This could be a huge year for this program if they can take another step forward.
I’ll always think of UMBC as the killer Bees led by Coach Koesterer a few years back. These guys play mean and consistent. The only problem is they don’t have a ton of talent. They win the games they should and lose to the ones that are in question. I think this will be another mediocre year for the Retrievers.
Merrimack has had trouble finding its footing at the Division 1 level. Very inconsistent year after year. I don’t think this year changes anything.
Coach Wolf got NJIT their first win in over a year last year in his first year at the helm. I think they will have about the same year beating the same teams again, one of which being Umass Lowell.
Coach Kelleher had a rough first year going defeated. I don’t think Gary or Paul or Jake Nicolosi are walking through the door to save the River Hawks.

ASUN
#1 Jacksonville
#2 Utah
#3 Bellarmine
#4 Air Force
#5 Robert Morris
#6 Mercer
#7 Cleveland State
#8 Detroit Mercy
#9 Queens
#10 Lindenwood
I think Jacksonville continues to get better and better each year under John Galloway. They keep bringing in great transfers and I think they take another step this year and take the conference.
Utah struggled in the early going of their schedule last year and then dominated the lesser competition they played. Their 11 game winning streak came to an end to the eventual national champs in the first round of the playoffs. They will be good again this year but I think Jacksonville just got a little bit better.
The boys from Kentucky made their way to the conference playoffs last year. I don’t know what it is about these guys, maybe it’s that they have opened up with duke the last few years but I think these guys are good. They really turned it around after a 4-12 year in 2022. I think the conference playoffs are in these guys’ future again.
My logic for thinking Bellarmine is good is the exact reason why I think Air Force is bad. I can’t tell you why except for the fact that I haven’t seen them beat anybody good. Yes they beat Denver but I didn’t watch that game so it doesn’t count so shut up.
Bobby Mo continues to be my favorite underdog scrappy team. A bunch of beauties from Canada that play a fun version of Lacrosse. Every time these guys play is like watching MAC football, you never know what’s going to happen. With that being said I don’t think they will have a great year.
I don’t think year 2 for coach Danehy is where he makes the big jump for this program. Maybe next year fellas.
A not good team that can beat other not good teams, Cleveland State isn’t competing for the goods on Memorial day any time soon.
Detroit Mercy, Queens, and Lindenwood are 3 of the bottom dwellers on Division 1 Lacrosse. Lindenwood was so bad in year 1 they decided to call it a career. I’m here for laughs. I’m sorry, I actually think it’s disgusting what that school did to those kids.

A10
#1 St Josephs
#2 Richmond
#3 High Point
#4 Umass
#5 Hobart
#6 St Bonaventure
St Josephs brings back another loaded grad year and senior class which includes the boy Richie LaCalandra who makes his return to the field after a short stint at THE Ohio State. I think these guys have something to prove this year. Look out for a round 1 victory for Coach Wrays boys.
When I think of Richmond I think Defense, when I think of High Point I think of Offense. The battle of Coach Broschart vs Coach Richards offense and defenses will decide who comes in second this year. My brain always thinks defense so I think Richmond comes in second.
Umass is Umass, a tough hardnose well coached team. I love coach Canella but I don’t think this will be one of his more talented teams.
Hobart needs to take some tips from its women’s team to try to get back to their winning ways.
St Bonaventure had one of the bigger drop offs ever last year. They went from 11-4 and 1 goal away from a playoff appearance to 1-13. People are starting to ask if Jake Nicolosi killed the Bonnies.

Big East
#1 Georgetown
#2 Denver
#3 Villanova
#4 Providence
#5 Marquette
#6 St Johns
Call me lame but I think this conference ends the same exact way it did last year. I have heard nothing but great things about Georgetown this pre-season. I think they can make a strong push for championship weekend this year.
Denver starts fresh without Coach T berating the officials on the sideline for the first time in a long time. I think Coach Brown will have a very nice first season.
To quote a Villanova alumni “We are a 9-5 team it’s just who we are”. I think things will stay the same for the wildcats this year. Shout out Haggs!
Coach Benson hasn’t been there long enough and brought in enough of his guys to make a big difference yet. Watch out for these guys in 2 years.
Marquette was like 4 goals away from being ranked in the top 10 last year. 1 goal games down the stretch and ended up with a 6-8 record. Will they get over the hump this year and win some of those 1 goal games? I don’t think so.
St Johns got a much needed change with the signing of Justin Turri as their head coach. I think they will struggle for a few more years but this is a good sign for things to turn around at St Johns.

Big 10
#1 Hopkins
#2 Maryland
#3 Rutgers
#4 Michigan
#5 Penn State
#6 Ohio State
The Blue Jays are back on top. I think Coach Crawley is the difference maker here. This guy is the real deal and the next big time head coach in Division 1.
It’s hard to not have Maryland at the top of any list when talking about lacrosse but I need to see how the new crop of terps look before I can put them back up top.
Transfer U has done it again. They have like 60 grad transfers on the roster this year. I like what coach Brecht has built the last few years and I think they have a chance to make it to the playoffs this year.
Michigan should probably be high on this list as you could probably say about Penn State but this is my list so go write your own. I think the top 3 teams in this conference can play defense. I don’t know if these two can. Time will tell, I think I will be completely wrong with these picks come the end of the year.
THE Ohio State will be a good team not a great team and there are a lot of great teams in this conference.

CAA
#1 Delaware
#2 Stony Brook
#3 Drexel
#4 Towson
#5 Monmouth
#6 Hofstra
#7 Fairfield
#8 Hampton
Delaware under Coach Deluca has been great. I don’t know how much better they got from last year but it’s still good enough to be at the top of this list.
The Seawolves are destined to be good this year. Destined is a strong word but I just have a good feeling about this team. Co-player of the year Dillon Pallonetti is back and ready to take over. Maybe a former NYS Champ from Massapequa and Terp will be the difference for this team in the midfield. Gibbons I love ya kid.
Drexel and Towson are like Richmond and High Point that I referenced earlier. I think offense and defense respectively for those teams but I think Drexel’s success more recently will help them be a little bit better.
The bottom 4 teams here are trash. I’m hoping for great things for my guy Tommy Heller in his grad year at Monmouth but these teams won’t be making much noise this year.

Ivy League
#1 Cornell
#2 Princeton
#3 Yale
#4 Penn
#5 Harvard
#6 Brown
#7 Dartmouth
Cornell is the standard for the Ivy’s still after having such a dominant few years under both Connor Buczek and Jordan Stevens. I like the Bug Red to keep on rolling.
This entire conference battles and beats the shit out of each other all year so it’s so hard to judge this conference. Not to mention they all play a pretty ridiculous out of conference schedule as well. With the new addition of Coach Kerwin at Dartmouth there will be no more freebies or easy games for any of these teams. I won’t try to write too much for this pre season pick because it will most end the complete opposite of what I think. I’ll let the boys with perfect SAT scores figure it out for me.

MAAC
#1 Marist
#2 Mount Saint Mary’s
#3 Manhattan
#4 Quinnipiac
#5 Sacred Heart
#6 Canisius
#7 VMI
#8 Siena
#9 LIU
#10 Wagner
#11 Iona
Let me start by saying this conference STINKS. It sucks that there will be an AQ from this conference and the 3rd best team from the ACC or the Ivy’s or the 2nd best team from the Big 10 or Big East won’t have a chance to actually win a playoff game.
I’m going with some hometown cooking with this pick. The conference champs from last year are home to a bunch of my guys. Jake Deacy leading the offense and Aidan Mccafery on defense. Hopefully they can make some noise and run it back again this year.
Mount St Mary’s is now led by one of the better Division 2 college coaches of all time in Chris Ryan. He ran one of the best and most consistent teams over the last 20 years at Mercyhurst. They will be in good hands with him and shouldn’t skip a beat.
There has been so much turnover at head coach for Manhattan so it’s hard to pick them to finish at the top of the conference this year but this conference is so bad maybe they can overcome it and prove me wrong.
Quinnipiac lost its heart and soul in Coach Zom this summer. They almost beat brown last year and I can’t put them lower on this shit list because of it.
Sacred Heart is lucky to be in this conference so they wont be called out for how truly bad they are. They just happen to have 6 of the worst teams in division 1 lacrosse in their conference. We gotta make a change at the top OD.
The bottom 6 you guys get it. They’re trash and not worth writing about, reading about, or watching. Shout out the Sharks though I love their staff.

Patriot League
#1 Army
#2 BU
#3 Loyola
#4 Navy
#5 Lehigh
#6 Lafayette
#7 Bucknell
#8 Colgate
#9 Holy Cross
A very fun top half of the conference I think will be won again by Army. I actually think them and BU make their way back to the conference championship and give each other hell again. Coach Alberici and Polley have done such an incredible job and will both have a really good chance at the playoffs this season.
Loyola is a wild card. They are a team coached well enough to beat Duke but haven’t been able to have consistent years as the top dog in the conference. It’s stupid of me to say because they have been the best team in this conference as long as Coach Toomey has been there but this is just how my stupid brain works.
I don’t think Navy is better this year. I just think Lehigh is worse than the reason for them being above. If you’ve read this blog the past few years you know of my ongoing feud with the Navy. These guys need to figure it out this year.
Lafayette Bucknell and Colgate are all the same exact team to me. There are bad teams but not historically defeated teams like NJIT, Wagner and Umass Lowell but literally wont beat anybody besides those teams. These guys are the tier right above absolute dog shit on my overall rankings.

Independent
Lemoyne
I’m super happy for Lemoyne making the jump. Now they can see what it’s like to go from top dog to getting your teeth kicked in just like all the other division 2 teams that have jumped in the last 10 years. No but seriously I think Lemoyne has a chance to actually be a successful division 1 team unlike LIU, Merrimack, Queens and whoever else made the dumb decision to jump. Best of luck to Coach Sheehan and the Dolphins.
